“Winds of Change” explores the realities of imminent changes to our Earth’s climate and how they are influenced by societal conflict, war, and the possibility of peace. The program is presented in three sets of pieces. First, we find ourselves on a "Sumptuous Planet" of which status we as humans are endangering ("Señal del Viento" or "Warning of the Wind"). The second set ties together our desire to "breathe free" with reflections on American society and its engagement with environmental and social issues ("The New Colossus," and "Clean Air and Clean Water"). Perspective shifts back to that of the whole world and the reality that war and violence are to be reckoned with if we are to be truly conscious stewards of our Earth (the third set of pieces features the musings of two war-torn voices of the past century in "Trois Beaux Oiseaux des Paradis" ("Three Beautiful Birds of Paradise") and "Friede auf Erden" ("peace on earth"). The program ends with Ysaye Barnwell's simple yet profound plea of reason in "Breaths." Join us in two historical venues as we bring our voices together to celebrate the beauty of the earth and recognize our profound responsibility to take care of it.

Join us on October 22nd and 23rd for two world premieres from Nightingales Laura Nevitt and Juan Suarez, as well as music by Saunder Choi, Ysaye Barnwell, David Shapiro, Maurice Ravel, and Arnold Schönberg.
